A beautiful, summer like day greeted the new owners at Fontwell Racecourse today. The sun absolutely blazed down and there was a good crowd present. John and Eloise Penny were at their stand pre racing to greet owners new and old of Mohanad. This was possibly going to be one of those heart in the mouth races. Not only as it was Mohanad's debut hurdling but there were some new owners present but Sheena and Jamie (barring the usual problems you can meet on racetracks) were confident that Mohanad would be good enough to get placed. This is quite a big ask on any horses debut especially as there were some horses in the race with big question marks over them. That said, Sheena as usual, did her straight talking pre race chat and just confirmed what she knew about the horse. She would not be swayed that Mohanad was going to finish off tailed off or unable to jump a hurdle. Jamie Goldstein, for me, probably the most laid back jockey in the weighing room showed no sign of nerves as he sauntered over with his usual big smile and friendly greeting to all the owners. Hayley had Mohanad looking wonderful. He is a stunning looking horse.
The race began with two horses going off at a cracking pace in 20 degree heat and managed to gain a healthy lead on the first circuit. Jamie rode patiently and Mohanad, although making a couple of jumping errors kept his placing just behind the leading pack.
Although finishing a tired horse like many of them, Mohanad took 3rd place. The race hadn't panned out exactly as Jamie would have liked and came to have a chat with the owners after the race in the Owners and Trainers. Both Sheena and Jamie are still confident of this horses ability and they are already looking forward to planning his next race.
Mohanad's tissue price was 16/1 - although he was trading around 7/2- 4/1 on the day.
As The Racing Post pointed out, Sheena can and does work miracles on many of her horses especially those that may have limited ability on the flat and may just need a new challange and a new environment.
A great afternoon's racing and some very happy, and possibly relieved owners, although none of them (that I was aware of) were contemplating asking for their money back (as was the Heart of The South offer) if Mohanad didn't get placed on his debut.

Just to update everyone about Tarawa Atoll who took a really nasty fall at Plumpton on Sunday.
She is a little bruised but apart from that she is absolutely fine Sheena is pleased to announce.

Race horse syndicate shares for sale
A FULL REFUND WILL BE GIVEN if this horse is NOT in the Winners Enclosure after his hurdle race!
You can not ask for much more than that!
Mohanad is an athletic 3-year old by Invincible Spirit
Mohanad was originally purchased for £73,500 and trained by MICK CHANNON for Sheikh Ahmed Al Maktoum.
Once rated as high as 83 on the flat, this horse has freshened up no end in his new environment and schools very well over hurdles. He is ready to race and entered for Fontwell Park this Thursday. We are so confident that he will run a big race first time out that we are making the above offer.
This week he worked with and as good as TOBAGO BAY a 4yo rated 135.Like TOBAGO BAY, Trainer Sheena West expects MOHANAD to excel over hurdles and has been impressed with his attitude and love for jumping since being under her management.
This son of INVINCIBLE SPRIT is well put together and you can clearly see why MICK CHANNON and his bloodstock agent Jill Richardson paid £73,500 for him.
After a respectable flat career, Sheena purchased the horse from Mick back in June. After a gelding operation and a bit of time to develop, MOHAND has matured into a smashing sort.
Recent stable visit
17th September 2009
MOHANAD (in the pale blue colours) is seen here working with and as good as TOBAGO BAY, a 4yo, with the rest way behind. TOBAGO BAY'S current handicap mark is 135.
Jamie Goldstein is very found of this horse indeed and says "I really like him and he is a perfect partnership horse as he is dual purpose. You would be mad not to buy him!"
Not only does MOHANAD have a bit of speed, he has been schooled over hurdles during the summer and he jumps them quickly and easily as the opposite picture shows.

5% shares only £1250
All inclusive training fees £105 per month

Another honest race by Tobago Bay at Uttoxeter today and certainly not disgraced. Sheena will be speaking to the owners, Heart of The South Racing to discuss the next plan of action.

Sheena clealy has a talent at turning Mick Channon's flat horses into horses that can not only hurdle but can hurdle AND win! Sheena had been encouraging existing, old and new owners to buy into this talented horse but to no avail! After todays second win - the horse has now been sold but for far more than the original offer of £5000 for the whole horse a couple of months back! Be warned, with Sheena training and Jamie schooling, this double act know when they have a winning horse in their midst so don't miss any other potential winning horses for sale in the yard! Give Sheena a call - she may just have what you are looking for.
Back to the subject in hand, Forty Thirty a worthy favourite won again with not too much to threaten him at Stratford in the 2:15 » Lafarge GTEC Plasterboard Solutions Juvenile Novices' Hurdle (Class 3) (3yo) (2m110y) 2m½f Good To Firm 9 hdles. Although Forty Thirty made a mistake with his talented pilot in the seat - he soon settled and went on to win in good style.
Congratulations to all the winning connections!

FORTY THIRTY supplemented his Bangor victory from subsequent winner Marsool and looks a useful recruit to this division. Held up, he began to close down the back on the second circuit but there was an anxious moment as he made a mistake when jumping into second place three out. Other than that it was plain sailing as he cruised to the front between the last two flights and soon came away. The sort to extend his winning sequence, he is set to go to Market Rasen at the end of the month before a trip to Cheltenham´s opening fixture.

A dry August on Balmer farm, following on from a dry July, meaning the ground is very firm to do much more than canter.
The last two summers have been very wet and we hadn't been too affected with the horses. It is worth remembering that this time last year we couldn't harvest 30 acres of corn because of the weather, and the hay was made in the 3 dry days we had. As a consequence bar a few horses we are restricted to cantering and plenty of turnout which helps stop them getting too fizzy.
Update on the horses as follows:
================================
Silber Mond
===========
The leggiest horse in the yard and still cantering away quite happily and waiting for rain.
Last one Standing
==================
Doing plenty without galloping. He's just too much potential to risk unnecessarily at home for the sake of a little patience.
Bay Hawk
========
Cantering and needs rain
Geoffdaw
========
He's now settling in well in his new environment and finding everything far less shocking than when he first arrived! He's doing plenty of schooling and enjoying it. I know he's won four races over 5 and 6 furlongs and no horse wins off 74 on the flat without having a bit about them, but he's no faster than a few of mine and seems to keep going so the 20th at Plumpton currently beckons.
Ladino
======
Lots of cantering and some tentative 3/4 pace to see how he gets on. He likes fast ground and have to do more than ideal before the ground goes for him.
++++++++NEW ++++++++
Son of Karinga
==============
A huge big chestnut 5 year old who has been running before he can walk. Has been in a livery yard over the hill to help get his career back on track and is now with us to try and help complete the process.
Mac Federal
===========
Looking fantastic and still just walking and trotting. He will definantly not be doing more until it rains. His half brother Paco Jack won a big race in Ireland this weekend. I've told Mac this and he's duly noted it!
Paula
=====
In and cantering
Appointment
===========
Has twisted or sprained her fetlock so a little rest is due. As you will know yourself although it's essentially nothing to worry about the effects can linger on for a while.
Le Chiffre
==========
In well good order and feeling great.
Split the Wind
==============
Her sore feet have been a pain, trouble is although the bruising and sore bits have been removed the cause of them hasn't i.e. the ground. Hope to get her back this month though.
Blazing Bolte
=============
Poor Dale, has been suffering corns (bless her) again the problem has been solved but not the cause, but she'll be fine.
Mohanad
=======
Doing fast work now and looking good indeed. His future is bright and if someone buys him they will have a nice horse for flat or hurdles.
Golan Way
=========
Still cantering, but plenty of it. We are very mindfull of the knock he got at Cheltenham and also that he is a very good horse, so again a little patience is required for his long term future.
Kashmina
========
Fully recovered now and doing fast work. I really wanted to run her soon over hurdles and she had another spin on the flat last week with the aim of putting her right, but she was a little fresh and has although she's fine in herself she is a little tired and will have to wait a couple of weeks.
Itsawindup
============
Just ticking over while his owners decide what to do next.
Tobago Bay
============
The little chaps really bubbly and happy. He dropped a hugely unhelpful 4 lbs for Bangor so he's now only 135 so we will try him over 2 1/2 Uttoxeter on the 11th September is the current plan.
Tarawa Atoll
=============
She is training well and just needs that rain!
Forty Thirty
============
Came out of the Bangor race really well and looking forward to running him this weekend at either Stratford or Fontwell where he should go well and surprisingly still for sale (hint, hint).
Footnote: The horse that finished 2nd at Bangor has just won at Newton Abbott!
NEW
====
A Dancing Spree horse has just arrived. More details to follow.
